Philadelphia’s Washington Square West neighborhood has quickly become one of the hottest areas in the City of Brotherly Love. Washington Square, as it is sometimes referred, is a unique mix of residential buildings, pockets of trendy boutiques, and up-and-coming eateries that are within easy access of downtown.

Washington Square Real Estate
Real estate has become quite popular over the years, which means that homes here are a superb investment. Properties tend to hold their value and generally appreciate over time. Washington Square West is loosely defined as the area around Washington Square Park. The borders are Locust Street to the north, Lombard Street to the south, 8th Street to the east and Broad Street to the west. Washington Square Park
Washington Square Park is a 6.4 acre open-space park in the southeast region of Center City. It was created in 1862 and is one of the five original planned squares of Philadelphia. In 2005, the National Park Service took over ownership and supervision of the park, which is now park of Independence National Historic Park.
Washington Square Park is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier. In 1954, the city designed and constructed this monument to commemorate all the soldiers and sailors of the Revolutionary War. The tomb contains remains that were once interred on the site when the park was a cemetery in its very early days.
The park contains another interesting display for residents and visitors to enjoy. In 1975, a sycamore moon tree was planted in the square. It was grown from seeds that had been carried to the moon on the Apollo 14 mission.
Washington Square Lifestyle
This town is an eclectic, vibrant neighborhood that offers a little of bit something for everyone. The area is the country’s oldest diamond district, and as such now contains part of Jewelers Row where shoppers can find an array of jewelry and ornaments from a variety of vendors. Lovers of the past will enjoy a stroll along Antique Row, and can duck into one of the many shops to dig for treasures from bygone eras.
The neighborhood is next to Independence Park which contains Independence Hall, so residents can enjoy the sense of history that permeates the streets. There are also many wonderful shops, restaurants and coffee houses that offer a dizzying array of cuisines and conveniences.
