Art lovers, unite!
On Friday, May 18th, from 10am- 8:45pm, you’ll be able to enjoy all the galleries in both the Main Museum Building and the Perelman Building at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for FREE if you live in Philadelphia. Enjoy exhibitions, tours, and Cuban-born jazz drummer Fransisco Mela (during Art after 5) while you indulge in appetizers catered by the famous Stephen Starr. Whether you love sculptures, abstract pieces, or music, this day will sure find some way into your creative, festive heart and maybe even inspire you to purchase or create something for your Philadelphia home!
While you’re around the Art Museum, try stopping by one of the parkway’s favorite spots, Con Murphy’s. Two steps into this Irish pub and you’ll notice that this is not just a ‘wee’ bar, but a home away from home for many. It could be business folk who stop in for breakfast, tourists who want a pint of Guinness and fish & chips, or extended family & friends visiting from Ireland. You just never know. And with live music on the weekends, including bands and a DJ, drink specials, and an outdoor patio, the crowd is just as fun and unpredictable as the night before. If so, check out the National Constitution Center for “From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen,” an exhibition that encompasses the artist’s life and legacy. Over 150 artifacts, dozens of handwritten lyric manuscripts, and even Springsteen’s 1960 Chevrolet Corvette make up this living legend’s tribute.
So take a note from Springsteen this weekend: “The American idea is a beautiful idea. It needs to be preserved, served, protected and sung out. Sung out.” And all of Philadelphia is a great stage.
