The traditional Penn Relay Carnival approaches this weekend, beginning on Thursday, April 26th and running through the 28th. 118 years in the making, this annual relay meet is recognized world-wide, bringing close to 100,000 spectators to Franklin Field, located at the University of Pennsylvania! Participants range from high school athletes to professional track stars. You won’t want to miss out on the excitement of watching these top athletes and Olympic hopefuls race so close to your University City home. Whether you live in City Center, Packer Park, Fishtown, or even have a home in Manayunk, you’ll want to marvel at the yearly spectacle of strength, endurance, determination and courage demonstrated on Saturday at the USA vs. World races.
Along with the amazing athletic performances, this community festival offers a wealth of crafts for children, activity and souvenirs, and a huge selection and variety of food available for purchase by attendees. Tickets ($18-$24 weekdays and $30-$50 for Saturday) are required for admission to the event and can be purchased here or by calling 1.888.PENN.TIX. Parking is limited and traffic can be quite congested (especially along 33rd Street), so plan on carpooling, using public transporation, or walking/bicycling to the meet. Have a great time and be inspired!
