The IESE Business School in Spain announced their annual list of the world’s best (see: smartest) cities and Philly ranked at #11-above Los Angeles! So how did they pick the winners? They looked at who had the highest levels of innovation, sustainability and quality of life. You can read about how they specifically measure these here—it’s pretty intensive, researchers study 135 cities across 55 countries and then base their results on over 50 indicators across 10 different areas including governance, public management, urban planning, technology, environment, international outreach, social cohesion, mobility and transportation, human capital (aka the ability to attract talent), economy and more. We love when Philadelphia is recognized for the awesome place it truly is!
The top city in motion this year is Tokyo, followed by London and then New York. So if you’d LIKE to, you can travel from our top city to the number 3rd city in the WORLD in under 2 hours. And in a time when it’s really location, location, location, that’s a pretty awesome win, we’d say.
